Thank you and congratulations to all who came or volunteered for the UW Science Exhibitions 2019. The comments were endlessly affirming, the experiment “stations” were lively, and the volunteers at the Stations (including health sciences students) were amazing.
We calculated that about 600-800 children and their grownups came through the Health Sciences Learning Center, the School of Nursing and the School of Pharmacy on Sunday the 9th; proving once again that science in all its forms and applications is a force to be reckoned with. This year the historical Staggering Losses exhibition on the 3rd floor was a destination visited by countless visitors interested in WW1 and the Influenza Pandemic of 1918.
From history to demonstrations on hearing, hand hygiene, robotic simulation, DNA research, glass blowing, opioid awareness, anesthesiology, capillary action and memory, attendees of all ages learned the ins and outs of scientific research! Ebling’s Velcro skeleton “puzzle” proved as successful as ever and gave us an opportunity to talk about the library’s resources with their parents. An engaging time was had by all!
